Early experience

Ramos started playing football at the age of seven. He began his football career at local Sevilla FC in 1996. Ramos became the top player in 2003. One year later, he appeared in 41 games in 2004-2005 season and qualified to the UEFA Cup. His talent in football and good performance had attracted Real Madrid’s attention, the strong football club in the world. David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo have played for the club.

Real Madrid

Ramos transferred to Real Madrid with the transfer fee €27 million from 2005 until today. With his help, Real Madrid got two successive champions of La Liga in 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons where Ramos appeared 65 times and scored totally 10 goals. Real Madrid got its first champion of UEFA Champions League after 12 years in 2014 because of Ramos’s good performance. Besides, Ramos helped the club get the title of FIFA Club World Cup in December 2014.

On 17 August 2015, Ramos agreed a new five-year contract with Real Madrid. He would continue to play for the club although Manchester United tried to purchase him.

Ramos was selected as La Liga Best Defender in 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. He ranked 25th in the Guardian’s top 100 footballers in 2016.

Spain national team

Ramos and Spain’s U-19 got the champion of European Football Championship in 2004. He made his debut for Spain national team in a friendly match against China and played for the national team in the qualifiers of 2006 World Cup in March 2005.

Spain national team won Denmark 3-1 in the qualifier of European Football Championship on October 13, 2007. After that, Ramos helped the team defeat Sweden on November 17, 2007.

In 2008, Ramos, as one of the players of Spain national team, and the national team won the title of 2008 European Football Championship. Besides, they won the title of 2010 World Cup. Ramos was selected for his third World Cup in 2014. He played the full 90 minutes of each of the team’s matches in Brazil.

Ramos had won the Defender of the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League season award. He is the inaugural recipient of the award that is to recognize the top defender in Europe’s premier club competition each season. Others who got the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League positional awards were Buffon, Modrić and Ronaldo. Unsurprisingly, Real Madrid dominates the honors list. The club became the first team in the UEFA Champions League era to retain the trophy in last season, with captain Ramos, playmaker Modrić and top scorer Ronaldo all playing a key role in their campaign.
